Now in its 8th year, the Convergence Art Show continues to be a powerful celebration of young artistic talent—and it holds a special place in our hearts because it was a show created by Kent Archer, Chair of our Visual Arts Department. Born from the idea of uniting young artists from across several local high schools, Convergence brings together student work from CATS Academy Boston, Braintree High School, Thayer Academy, and Milton Academy in one dynamic and inspiring exhibition.
This year’s show received nearly 160 digital submissions, which were carefully reviewed by an external judge. From this selection, just 75 pieces were accepted into the show. Once the selected works were physically installed, two additional judges viewed them in person to determine the winners of seven awards: Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, plus three Honorable Mentions.
We’re incredibly proud to share that our CATS Boston students continue to shine at Convergence. This year, talented artist Ikepo took home the Best of Show award for the second year in a row with a stunning acrylic portrait painting. Ikepo’s back-to-back wins are a testament not only to her incredible talent but also to her continued growth as an artist.
In addition to Ikepo’s top honor, Chris received an Honorable Mention for an outstanding piece in fashion design and construction, while Tam also earned an Honorable Mention for a meticulously detailed pen and ink architectural drawing.
Perhaps most impressive of all, in the eight years that the Convergence Art Show has existed, a CATS student has won Best of Show five times. That’s an astonishing streak and a powerful reflection of the depth and quality of creative work our students are producing year after year. It also highlights the passion and dedication of our exceptional Arts faculty at CATS Academy Boston, whose guidance and support play a key role in our students’ success.
